Do I receive tickets if I book online?
Passengers will receive an order confirmation email from email@example.com and will receive tickets in the following way:
4 days or less until sailing – Tickets can be collected at the Purser’s office on board the ship.
7 days or less until sailing – Tickets will be sent by 1st class post.
8 + days until sailing – Tickets will be sent by 2nd class post.
If you reside outwith the UK, we will automatically arrange for your tickets to be collected on board Waverley on the day of the sailing at the Purser’s office.
Are there reductions for children?
On most trips, children aged 5 – 17yrs (accompanied by an adult) are HALF the Adult fare; 0-4yrs TRAVEL FREE!
Is there a reduction for Senior Citizens?
Very often we have reductions on our weekday sailings for our Senior passengers with an average reduction of £2. Look out for our special offers on some cruises inviting Senior Citizens to ‘Bring a Friend for Half Price’. Anyone over the age of 60, and in full retirement, qualifies for a senior citizen rate.
Are there reductions for Group Bookings?
Yes a 10% reduction is given when 10 or more adult/seniors book in advance. See the Groups page. We are unable to accept bookings for Stag and Hen parties or large single sex groups.
Can I purchase a ticket on board the boat on the day I want to sail?
Tickets can be purchased on-board on the day of sail but customers are reminded these are subject to availability. To be sure of your tickets – book in advance.
When should I be at my departure point?
Please ensure that you are at the ship 10 minutes prior to the departure time. Boarding closes 3 minutes before departure on outward and return journeys. Please note that gangways are usually open 30 minutes before departure at Waverley’s first port of call. Make sure you are aware of the departure point of the ship – See Departure ports page.
How do I redeem my Gift Vouchers?
You can use your gift vouchers in two ways. Please send them to our office at 36 Lancefield Quay, Glasgow G3 8HA with details of your chosen trip or use them on board Waverley for tickets on the day subject to availability or at the bars, restaurant & souvenir shop.
What disabled/wheelchair facilities do you have on-board?
For safety purposes the gangways leading onto the ship are ridged and therefore wheelchair passengers, if they can’t walk across, will have to be carried. The Crew are happy to assist less-agile passengers. Waverley is a historic passenger vessel and there are relatively steep stairs leading between the different decks. Please ask for any help you may require. Please note that due to safe manual handling regulations we are unable to carry electric wheelchairs or motor scooters and there is a safe handling limit of 14 stone. Waverley has a disabled toilet on the promenade deck. Whilst we welcome disabled passengers aboard the ship not all ports and piers have suitable access. Please call in advance if there are any queries.
Are single fares available?
Single journey tickets are available on most cruises. These are available to purchase on-board the ship on the day of sail.A single fare is 70% of the return fare, or £19 if 70% of the return fare is less than £19.
What does saying yes to Gift Aid mean?
Waverley is owned by a charity which is reliant on your support to continue to keep the world’s last sea-going Paddle Steamer sailing for future generations to enjoy. Advertised fares include an admission charge of £17.50, which is classed as a donation, and the appropriate sailing fare. The donation means the charity is able to claim an additional £4.38 from HMRC by way of Gift Aid. If you are a taxpayer and agree to WSN claiming Gift Aid on your donation then in the event of a cancellation the first £17.50 of your fare will be available to use against a future sailing. The balance of your fare is refundable on request or can be used as a credit for a future sailing. You can only gift aid your fare if you will pay tax of at least £4.38 this year.
Is there somewhere aboard to get a meal or snack?
Waverley has a restaurant, two lounge bars and a tea room. The restaurant serves a choice of 3 hot meals for lunch and dinner and a selection of sandwiches, soups and snack throughout the day. For the full menu click here. You can pre-book your meal and guarantee your seat and time by calling 0141 243 2224. The reservation fee is £1 per person. We would require your meal choice and payment in advance. Your card will be charged the day prior to the sailing. You can also book a meal on the ship on the day information will be provided on board on how to do this. Please note that on busy sailings, you may be asked to vacate your table after you have finished your meal.
The catering outlets are unable to accept Credit Cards, however cashback can be obtained from the Purser’s office on board at a charge of £2.00 per transaction.
Are bikes allowed on board?
Yes, there is a standard charge of £7.50 to bring your bike on board for single or return journeys.
Are dogs allowed on board?
Guide and Hearing Dogs are welcome on-board Waverley. Unfortunately no other dogs are permitted.
What sort of car parking facilities are available?
Car parking is generally available within walking distance of the majority of departure points. For further information on specific locations, please contact the local tourist information shown on the Departure ports page.
Can I bring my own wine on-board?
As part of our conditions of carriage, no alcohol is permitted to be brought on board. Bag searches take place and passengers who have alcohol in their possession will be refused permission to board the ship – no refund of fare will be given .
Can I leave my bag on board when I go ashore?
We would advise you not to bring bags on board as it may delay your boarding. We do not allow large bags to be brought onto the ship. You are permitted to take small bags and handbags. We class small bags as no larger than 35cm x 40cm x 19cm or standard handbags. Bags may be searched at the gangway. There are no baggage facilities on the ship and you must keep your bag with you at all times, especially when you go ashore. Any bags left unattended will be put ashore by ship’s crew.
Is smoking permitted on board?
Smoking is permitted on the deck of the ship but we would ask you to take the wind direction and comfort of other passengers into consideration before lighting up.
How do I know if my sailing is operating?
If the sailing for which you are booked on is unable to operate then we will send notification by email and text to the contact details that you provided at the time of booking. As text messages are used, mobile telephone numbers are preferred as a contact number. If you have not booked a ticket in advance, or are unable to access your email or telephone messages then you should check the Latest News section on the home page at www.waverleyexcursions.co.uk or call 0141 243 2224 and listen to the recorded message. Whilst we endeavour to have representation at ports to inform passengers of any changes, this is not always possible.
What is the Company policy if a sailing is altered due to weather conditions?
If the ship is unable to call at a Port due to weather conditions, transport to an alternative Port will be provided. If you do not wish to sail on the date for which you have booked you can use your ticket as credit against any other sailing – during this season or the next. No refunds will be provided but you can obtain a credit note by sending unused tickets to Waverley Excursions Ltd, 36 Lancefield, Glasgow G3 8HA.
What is the Company policy if a sailing is cancelled?
If your sailing does not take place we can offer you the opportunity to use your ticket on any other sailing – during this season or the next – up to any value, even if your new cruise is more expensive than the one you had booked for. Alternatively, customers can obtain a refund by returning their unused tickets to Waverley Excursions Ltd, 36 Lancefield, Glasgow G3 8HA. Refunds should be applied for prior to October 31st each year. Refunds requests received after this date will be will be issued by cheque or voucher. Tickets returned after December 31st will be reissued as a credit note.
What if I cannot make a sailing I have already booked for?
No refunds can be issued for sailings that take place. If you give advance notice that you are unable to sail by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org, we can transfer the value of your unused ticket to a credit note which you can use on any other sailing up to the face value of the credit note. Credit Notes are normally valid for the season in which they are issued.
