Waverley the world's last sea-going paddle steamer called in at Largs today en route to cruise Ailsa Craig, for her first visit in 2009. Cmal, Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd who are responsible for Largs Pier have met the deadline set to enable Waverley to call in at the Pier.

Bookings are now being taken for 2009 sailings aboard: Waverley - the last sea-going paddle steamer in the world and her consort Balmoral celebrating her Diamond Jubilee. These ships are operated by a Charity and carry 250,000 passengers each year transporting them to revisit favourite sea-side haunts or to marvel at the unfolding scenery of our unique coastline.

Brief history
· Paddle Steamer Waverley was built on the River Clyde in 1947. · In 2003, a major restoration project was completed, returning the ship to the original 1940's style in which she was built. · Waverley is the only real Clyde steamer and the last sea-going paddle steamer in the world. · In 1974, The Paddle Steamer Preservation Society bought the 693 tonne ship for £1 to preserve it for the future. · Originally built to sail mainly between Craigendorran & Arrochar, she now sails right around Britain offering regular trips on the Clyde, the Thames, South Coast of England and the Bristol Channel. · Waverley has a Scottish Tourist Board 4-star tour accreditation.
· Balmoral was built in 1949 in Southampton · Balmoral has had many roles in life including a car ferry and a restaurant. · Balmoral has undergone a regeneration programme with the help of the Heritage Lottery Fund to replace her engines and restore period lounges

WESTERN ISLES Sailings Waverley's Boilers have undergone a midlife survey and it has been discovered that part of the Boilers require to be replaced. As well as an increase in our refit costs an extended refit term is required. This means that Waverley's Western Isles Cruises have been postponed until May 29 - when Waverley will operate the same timetable until June 2.
