WAVERLEY arrived in Weymouth and kicked off her South Coast season with the now familiar evening cruise to Portland Bill and Lulworth Cove. We were delighted to welcome some of our friends from the Weymouth Harbour staff on-board and the Great Race proved to be quite lively as we turned for the beautiful Jurassic Coast.
Time allowed us to run past the cove in daylight as far as Worbarrow Tout before turning back towards Weymouth as the sun set, with Chief Officer Robin Wall providing his informative and humorous commentary throughout the cruise.
We then settled into our normal South Coast program, the only deviation being one day sailing from Poole Harbour…my thanks go to the Harbour Master – Captain Brian Murphy and all his staff who provided great assistance and made the whole thing possible.
The Weather was kind to us throughout the South Coast with the exception of one day when we had to curtail the sailing. Passengers numbers were very encouraging…proving again that weather and passenger numbers are extricably linked.
We were very proud to have Miss Cheryl Skinner serve as Second Officer for a few days, Cheryl had been a Cadet with us in 2012 and it was great to see her return as a qualified Officer to one of the ships she trained on.
Sadly a niggling boiler problem had to be sorted out once and for all which cost us the last day of the South Coast….lying at the gorgeous little town of Swanage until we were ready to set off for Whitstable and the River Thames.
