As a charity our primary aim is to maintain and operate Waverley for public benefit by offering a wide range of cruises on a living and working steam heritage attraction of national and international significance. We are exceptionally grateful to everyone who supports our efforts to keep Waverley sailing.
On the final sailing of 2025 Waverley’s main mast above the aft deck shelter fractured and the top section was removed. A full inspection took place of the fore mast which stands at almost 17m and it is now showing signs of aging having been fitted back in 2003. The decision has been taken to replace both timber masts. Waverley’s timber framed Dining Saloon windows were fitted in 1995, in recent years several repairs have been needed but the time has come to replace most of them after 30 years of weathering and continuously salt water spray from the paddles when Waverley steams along.
Given that both the masts and windows were not initially planned to be included in what is a very large winter refit, with a total budget now exceeding £1.5 million, an appeal was opened to raise £135,000 to replace the masts and windows and help retain Waverley’s authentic character.
